does anyone know of anywhere reasonably local to me (Selby) where i can get hold of something with a big enough capacity to store enough rainwater for a rain flush system? i need about 1000 - 2000 litre capacity, which is about 2 IBC containers. I can find people selling them online but they want a fortune for them, and as for big rain butts, well overpriced isnt the word

To sidetrack this ever so slightly, I've been looking for water butts myself, and can't believe the prices the shops want for 'toy-sized' ones. Was thrilled to find a water conservation group sponsored by another city, who make rain barrels from used heavy duty bulk food shipping barrels. The group is non-profit, so they just charge for materials and taxes. The barrels are the 220 L size, so perfect for home use. Imagine my surprise to find that a local farm supply store also carries the same barrels, for only $1 more (cheaper than petrol for a 3 hour round trip), which I can now convert myself. My big project for next year.

ive asked them for a delivery quote, but i think the delivery will be the expensive part. I had a look at the rest of their range - those blue barrel water butts the do for £15 are half the price of any other 'garden' butt ive seen anywhere with that capacity.

Im going to be really cheeky and ask at a local food factory if they have any surplus IBCs or barrels. Its worth a go.

Trillium, how much does your local supplier charge for them? you said a dollar more, but not how much in total!
