Helichrysum
« on: December 15, 2018, 18:03 »
does anyone out there grow cut flowers if so do you grow Helichrysum I guess this is an old annual variety also known as strawflower can be used as a cut flower or cut and dried for winter decoration I think it was used for Christmas decorations I believe I've seen it on the  Victorian flower garden series [December]

we have grew Helichrysum for a few years now as a cut flower  but never seem to get it to dry properly for  using  for decorations I assume we must be going wrong in the drying process somewhere  if anyone could advise on this topic it would be most appreciated

Just as they fully open their flowers cut them with long stalks and hang upside down in bunches, in the dry - garage or shed.
My allotment shed is too damp, but yours might be dry  ;)

They are a lovely flower for arrangements etc, and I do exactly as Mum says and hang them in the garage.
Good luck,  Mrs Bouquet

thank you both for those replies and I can see where I'm going wrong now because although there picked with long stalks there hung in a damp shed  well there's no heating and it does tend to get a bit on the damp side so  problem sorted

PS your rite Mrs B they are lovely flower for both fresh and dried I'M growing Helichrysum King sized mixed next year thanks again

I've been given a seed packet for Christmas - posh Sarah Raven ones called Helichrysum Salmon Rose.  They look very pretty so I'm looking forward to trying them now  :)
