Tomato Seedling Disease?
« on: March 23, 2010, 17:13 »
Hi Guys

has anyone had any problems with their tomato seedlings?  Mine have been growing well and now the two main leaves appear to have brown spots on and some leaves appear translucent.

The tomatoes have been raised in heated propagtors and mats in the shed.  The only problem I have is the amount of light coming in through the shed windows.

Thanks

Paul

Hi

Do you splash the leaves when watering ? or drippping from covers ?

The transparent patches may be caused by water on the leaves, being scorched by sunlight.

I hope others ca be more posative with answers.  :)

Hi guys

That would sound sensible...

I have photos but unsure how to attach them!

The photos are not online, so how do I attach photos from file?

Thanks

Paul

Have a look here, Paul

You just need to make sure your piccies aren't too big, as explained in that thread  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I would go for sun-scorch (a deficiency "disease" would be unlikely on such young plants)

You mention the light being a problem in your shed - do you mean too much or too little?
(Your seedlings don't look weak and spindly to me so seem to be getting enough light, even though sheds aren't known for being brightly lit)

Try not to wet the leaves and you should be OK (my opinion only, of course.............!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Hi thanks

The light in the shed isn't the greatest.

I'm thinking of putting a couple of aquarium fluorescent lights in there to see if that helps.

Would love a greenhouse but have to make do with a 20ft polytunnel.  The problem is I put my seedlings in the polytunnel to early last year and we had a major frost 1-2 April and that killed them all.

This time they are staying in the shed until the second week in April.

Thanks for your help

Paul
