That sounds OK, I just wondered whether they'd got too warm indoors or anything.

Hmm.  Perhaps someone else has some ideas?  I assume it was new(-ish) seed?

Only got the seeds 8 weeks ago. They haven't dried out, or suffered from damping off so I have been a bit confused over it. Maybe second time lucky.  :)

Lets face it we've all had difficulties germinating 1 thing or another this year.......the temps have been all over the place  No wonder the poor seeds can't decide whether they are coming or growing  :)
Conditions are forecast to be a bit more favourable from this weekend, so have another try 8)

I sowed my sprouts/cauli/cabb/brocc a month ago and germination has been pathetic to say the least. I've just sowed a tray of each in the hope that some of them will show through.
I must get a couple of heated propagators for next year.

I've just done that mum...........
That sounds strange as I'm 58 years of age!

Even a cold frame can get very hot during the day. Brassicas don't like this.

I start mine off in a cold greenhouse which I make sure is well ventilated during the day and the glass is well shaded. I had 21 out of 20 caulis sown in modules germinate earlier this year. (Must have dropped 2 seed in one module). They were last year's seed as well.

Try and maintain an even, coolish temp & avoid heated propagators like the plague, as has been said.

58 year olds rule!!!!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I'm the complete opposite andy - i planted almost twice as many calabrese and cabbages as i have space for hoping that at least half would germinate. Well, they've all bloomin' come up. Sown in modules in the greenhouse about 2 weeks ago - door and 'window' open before i go to work and shut when I get back. My problem is over watering I think - just getting used to the idea that you don't have to drench everything everyday!

Well im going to thin out and sow some more sprouts and broccoli this afternoon.
Im going to do some more sowing and finally potting on of my other well overdue plants too, so i hope the nice weather holds for me.
They will all go out now into my two mini greenhouses, hopefully they won't get leggy or hit by any frosts
