Treats for Chickens and Ducks
« on: September 26, 2008, 01:15 »
Hi everyone. I have read bits here and there about what you guys give your girls for treats but is there any way you can remind me so I can try things on my girls.

At he moment I have tried mealworms but they are not that fussed and I have tried Grapes which they love.

any other ideas for me.

And kate is it different for ducks or can they have the same as the chickens.

Thanks

Em

What no one else is awake this early in the morning, not even anyone waiting for eggs to hatch.  Shame.

Morning Hawkins

Ducks an Chucks can have the same treats no problems there :D

My birds love corn on the cob, left on the cob for the hens but I take it off for the ducks :)

Melon is a fav with my ducks and it's one thing the hens actually leave alone
Bread is ok so long as it's wet, I dampen the hen's bread & put the ducks in the water filled cat litter tray for the ducks :D

Any sort of fruit (Bodger I think gives his dried fruit which his enjoy) will get eaten, BUT as  with our own treats in moderation

Sarah, who's awake just

i've been awake most of the night, when i did finally fall asleep i dreamt i went to China and scooped up dozens of baby girls from the ophanages (this is what comes of watching the channel 4 documentary The Dying rooms at 3 am in the morning) although my dad was quite leniant over 58 chickens in a Megane, i think baby girls could prove a bit tricky.

My girls go mad for mealworms, spaghetti, milky bread, hedgerow berries, apples (neighbours fallen ones!!) sunday dinner pealings (boiled for 15 mins).  If they don't like it they won eat it!! I call my girls the feathered dustbins!

Hi,  My hens favourite treat are  definitely tomatoes. They chase each other around the garden fighting over them.

Sorry was awake but not really near a computer! Wish I had been watching eggs hatch.

Much of the treats my ducks like seem to be the same as chickens. Mine lurve tomatoes and slugs and lettuce. Never tried mealworms. they don't like brassicas.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.
