age of chickens
« on: November 14, 2009, 11:29 »
a friend of mine recently brought some ex production chickens out of an auction for me and we were told they were approx 12 months old. after a week, still no eggs out of 24 chickens.
is there a chance they are older than we have been told, is there a way of telling there age, they are ordinary lowman brown layers

thanks

ex batts are usually dispensed with at 18 months, you should still be getting eggs tho, i still get the odd eggs and mine are 3 years old, what are you feeding them on? are they penned or free range? do you give them treats? a bit more info would help.
i think it's unusual to get ex batts from an auction, maybe they are older than you think and someone has off loaded them because they have run out of eggs.
