Good you didn't do it across everybody else's plot, especially that it was a surgestion.

The newspapers won't be a slime but will be slim to stop any weeds growing through.

Think this is more suited to 'Grow Your Own, rather than 'Off Topic', so away it goes!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

i use papers in certain places - like the raised bed i have made for my strawberries

papers are also used as a mulch in my fruit cage - then topped with muck

i use newspapers and mags - to line my bean trench and my celery trench

my hot bed too

basically - wherever i want to surpress weeds and retain moisture - i use paper

my raised beds however - i don't use paper - i don't need it

I have just completed my 3rd bed (about 10 to go). I also lined mine with newspaper but laid it too thinly and left it exposed, that is I was too lazy to cover it with earth immediately and left it for 2 weeks. the paper rotted and the weeds came back through. So now I have left a 12mm layer on them and covered them immediately with earth. fingers crossed. I've had my 'lottie for 4 years and the weeds and couch grass seem to get worse the more i dig. This is my big hope, beds and weed suppressed pathways. Hope it works for you (and me) happy gardening.

Bore Da toptonk. I'm from Trehafod, near the Rhondda Heritage Park. In which part of our beautiful valley do you live?

yeah, just up the hill from it. I've never been there 'cos if I go for a beer I only go with the other half and as the Wayne is men only she can't come in. I'm amazed that in this day and age it can be that way but there you go. (perhaps thats why its the best about eh???)

get yourself some sheets of thick cardboard and line the raised bed with that

You can cadge cardboard from the electric showrooms or local business park. Once you get an allotment you have to become a scrounger and skip rat  :D

If you use newspaper, use the full thickness of it but you'd need a lot so cardboard would be easier.
