Taking cuttings from Broccoli
« on: September 08, 2012, 10:09 »
I have last years purple sprouting Broccoli which grey fantasticly well. The stems are very thick and strong and the plants are massive. They have gone to seed but as I haven't pulled them up they are producing new, fresh side shoots that look like the young plants I had last year.

Can I take these shoots off and plant for next year ?

Aren't these are the shoots you normally cut off and eat!  I don't think they would root.

Cheers,   Tony
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

I will certainly use them if not but some things put in water grow roots and you get a new plant. I do this with basil plants (hard wood and soft types)

IF someone says "no chance" - it makes me want to "do it" - go on what you got to lose!

No chance.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

No chance = give it a go.

I don't think it will work myself and probably not worth the effort - but why not enjoy the journey!

I don't enjoy journeys when I know I'm going to run into the buffers at the end of the line.
