Willow???
« on: October 24, 2009, 20:14 »
I have a tree in the garden that i have always assumed is a weeping willow.
But this year it has borne fruit.
I kid you not, they look just like minature green pears approx 1inch long.
If i can fathom out how to put pics up i will.
Dond suppose anyone knows what this tree really is??
Any help would be really appreciated.
rgds,Dave..

Is it a weeping pear. The leaves look a bit willow like and are silvery.  I have one, I'll take a pic tomorrow and we can see if its the same

They are pears, but ornamental rather than edible. :D

It is a weeping pear. If it was a weeping willow it would have taken your garden over.

I made the mistake of trying one of the fruits on mine as they looked ripe. It was not sour but dried my mouth up so I had no  option but to spit it out.

  I'm always genuinely impressed by the level of expertise on this forum.  Salicifolia?   Means willow leaved - which follows with davelambo thinking its a willow all these years.  Tidy.  Pity they are only ornamental pears.

Thanks for your help DavidT,after your reply,i googled weeping pear and recognised the tree and fruit. 8)
The tree itself is nearly 10 years old but has only started fruiting this year.
I tried biting into one today and my mouth dried up too,a bit like sucking a non ripe sloe.
