Wilkos Tomato food
« on: June 30, 2009, 12:57 »
Has anybody else used this? I am a bit concerned because it is just a clear liquid like water, is this normal? Any other liquid plant food I have ever used has always had some colour to it. At first I thought it might have just needed a good shake to mix the contents but this makes no difference.
Please tell me I haven't wasted my pennies, as we all know how expensive Wilkos stuff is  :D
Sets a low standard and fails to achieve it.

They're probably just trying to break the mind-set, that if it's plant food, it has to look like.............
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thanks for all your replys.
I am starting to think that mine is part of a bad batch and they have forgot to include some of the ingredients.
I have poured some into a glass to have a good look at it and it looks and feels like pure water. I would have expected it to at least feel a bit sticky.
Ah well, back to the garden centre for some proper red stuff.  :(

You could always refer it to your local Trading Standards department yorky, voice your concerns and see what they say. They often will refer things on for testing

p.s. its also possible that some unscrupulous person has used the contents replaced them with water and returned the itme for a refund as being "unused" - excuse my sceptiscism here but it does happen

Have a word with Wilkos, I always find them really helpful and if there is a problem Im sure theyll be happy to rectify it

Mine is also from Wilkos and a clear liquid.

My tom plants were looking a bit bedraggled last week an  a fellow plotter said it was time to start feeding them.

On Saturday I fed them with the Wilkos Tom food and now the plants look revitalised and healthy.

Unlikely as ditto fatbelly my bottle is also clear so unlikely especially as I am sure that there was a seal on top.

As with other posters my previous bottles were red-brown so is obviously a 'new' formulation lacking this. I'd guess the red was an iron complex so do any experienced tomato growers know how this will affect development as I thought the key element was the NPK ratio of these feeds?

If you want to check out your fertiliser, try filling a jamjar with it, stand the jar in the sun and let it evaporate till dry. You should be left with all the salts, which will have crystallised out. If you've just got a smear of white, then the contents were probably water (depending on the hardness of the water in Leeds).
