Gem squash were the only squash I liked when I was growing up in South Africa - cut in half, boiled until tender, scoop the seeds out then a dab of butter and a dash of pepper.  The cooked half squash was served on the dinner plate with whatever meal and you used your fork to "cream" it still while still in the skin.  The Gem Rolet seeds you can buy in this country don't produce fruits with quite the same taste or creamy texture or size - maybe the variety is slightly different from the ones from southern africa and more of a hybrid with something else?  I grew Gem Rolet last year and was very disappointed  so hopefully the real McCoy seeds will be better.

One of the greatest veg around... as you say I also grew up on them in Zimbabwe... every meal could have some!! My mouth is watering so gouing to pick some right now and cook for lunch...

Thanks for the seeds Gavin. I have just returned from India so sorry for the late reply. Looking forward to growing them. I'll keep you updated on how they do. Well it will be next year or course.
