Chicken worms and composting
« on: August 30, 2013, 08:29 »
if you have put chicken poo from chickens that had worms on the compost, what happens?

Do the worms die, or do they go into the soil to re-infest the chickens?

I believe the chickens pick the worms up from worms eggs that are in slugs and snails.  It is usually wild birds droppings that will be the cause so I suppose it would be the same from the chicken poo.  I would think that it would depend how hot your compost would get as to whether or not the worms/eggs would die.

You could always sprinkle some Diatomaceous powder on the compost heap and mix it in.  There would be no guarantees it would work but it is worth a try.
