Title: Replacing my mobile phone
Post by: Yorkie on June 09, 2022, 18:37
So, I was so busy admiring someone's front door as I went in through their gate, that I tripped up a step I didn't notice  , and smashed my phone screen . Luckily the phone is still working but clearly I need to decide whether to replace the screen (cost would be £70) or get a new phone.

The phone's about 2-3 years old, a motorola that probably cost about £150-180. It may be that replacing the screen is throwing good money after bad.  The phone's memory is filling up (it's a 32GB phone) and performace is slowing a little - but other than that I'm still pretty pleased with it.

Motorolas are known for decent specs and performance, except for the cameras, which is where the compromise is found.

How much do you think I might have to pay for a semi-decent camera on an Android phone? Trying to decide  which way to go from here.  I'm slightly averse to the idea of shelling out £300+ for something that is designed to be replaced in the usual course of events within about 3-4 years anyway.

Thoughts??  :D

If you still like it, why don't you take a while to clear some of the junk from its memory, that'll speed it up a bit, if that works, it'll be worth spending the £70 to get the screen fixed...

I like Motorolas too. I’ve got a g30 now and love it.

How good do you find the cameras on it?

It’s not as good as the camera on an iPhone but for its price I think it’s good.

Just took the pictures below, I’ve had to down size them to load on here.

My Motorola (Moto G4, 2 years older than yours) slowed to a crawl, but worked OK until it didn't. I replaced it with a Samsung A13 5G.  I am still getting used to it, but in general, it seems pretty good.  The cost here is equivalent to £200 roughly. It is faster, and the camera seems better.  My big complaint is that with my fingers, typing is less accurate, so I need to be more careful.

Something to consider if you end up going the new phone route.
