anybody know what breed of chick this is?
« on: June 28, 2011, 09:27 »
hatched yesterday! his (I don't actually know its a dude) parents were a brown hen (no comb, flat tail) and a classic looking (you know, all colourful, sticky uppy comb etc!)cockerel, (I don't know anything about chicken breeds so don't know how to describe them!) so I was rather suprised when he turned out to be a penguin!

does anyone know what breed this guy is?

also, when harriet (hatcher) was sitting on the eggs we had to get her up for food and water- should we still do this, and should we just leave the baby when we do?

It's difficult to say what she is without seeing photos of the parents - are you able to post some? Classic colouring for cockerels could be anything from a Leghorn to a Welsumer.
As for lifting her off, leave her be for now, especially if she is sitting on further eggs that are due to hatch. She'll sort herself out and will bring all of the family out to feed (or just the one chick) when she thinks they are ready.

She's a cute little devil!

I agree leave her alone and she will bring the chick/chicks out when they are ready. As for the breed it could be anything so you will have to wait until it has it's proper adult plumage if you don't know it's true parentage.
Staffies are softer than you think.
