Strimmer prob
« on: June 13, 2012, 19:08 »
This is a bit like ' how long is a peice of string'. I have a b&Q petrol strimmer, 2 years old. Been stored for 10 months. Started but wouldn't run, so drained the tank, mixed fresh fuel....still won't run. At full throttle and 3/4 choke it starts fine. I run it like this till it's good and warm. But, any reduction in throttle or choke and it stops. I'm thinking of stripping the carb and cleaning but no idea what I'm doing. Any thoughts please?
Pete

It sounds like the carb does need stripping, but if you don't know what you are doing, I would give it to someone who does! (there are a number of tiny screws, springs, delicate diaphragms and easily torn gaskets in )
The engine might just need tuning, you can see how to do it on a number of youtube videos.

I'd much prefer to give it to someone else to fix, but so far, Googling hasn't brought up anyone local :(

Do you know what carb you have, a few seem to use Walbro and they are fairly simple to service.  Also might we worth checking fuel lines.  Have you tried increasing the idle speed?

I presume this is a 2 stroke?  (Known in the motorcycling fraternity as a 'stinkwheel').

Cheers,    Tony.
