need to ask a newbie silly question.

i've read that potatoes don't need watering until the later stages.

i have put a couple of small runs in my poly tunnel to try and get a few spuds as early as pos, do i need to water these as the temperature will be high than outside?

all plants need some water to grow but for the early stage, just enough for the soil to be damp.  By summer, the combination of demands on water and evaporation means you should keep up with the watering as tubers develop

I've just put some in today too. I gave them a light watering but won't really bother again until the shoots appear above ground

I only water my spuds when the flower's show, unless we have a very long dry period. (some chance)

But it will be drier in the polytunnel than outside, so I would keep the soil a bit damp, as on sunny days, even if its cold outside, you will still get evaporation.

this was my logic too. i think maybe a little water once a week to dampen things down.
