Title: Brassicas
Post by: cmf on April 08, 2010, 08:49
At last I've managed to join this site...thanks to John for his help.
This is the second season for me on my allotment but I'm very disappointed that my Savoy cabbages & the spring cabbages have not formed 'hearts'.What have I done wrong? These were put in last autumn. One or two looked a little yellow..is that a concern? I would like to grow these again but obviously not with the same out come. Help please & thanks.

If they were yellow it sound as if they needed better feeding
What fertilizer did you use ?

ooh sorry, I missed that this was your first post, welcome  :)

I'll whizz this over to grow your own, you may get more advice in there  ;)

Hi and welcome to the site.  The other thing it may be is that they were planted a bit too close together and could get to a big enough size to heart up.  This is something I am always guilty of!

I had great success with mine for the first time last year and the only thing I can think of that I did different was after raking the bed I went over it with an old roller to really firm the ground before planting out the seedlings. Hope it's of some help.
