i read on the net that when you plant potatoes,make a trench about 4" deep a put a layer of grass cuttings in the bottom of the trench,and place the potatoes on top,this apparently will stop scab on potatoes.does anyone else do this?

I don't do it, but I think the idea is to make the soil a little more acid.

oh i see cheers tode,because last year i got scab.i have bought one of these two pronged soil testers,and it reads about 7.5 which obviously ok for brassicas as they done well this year.so i have bee looking for a way to raise acidity levels in the soil and that came up.

Would be interesting to do half with and half without, just to see if it really makes a difference.

maybe i might do one row without,jacket spuds dont have the same appeal when they are scabby
