Celeriac ?

I have quite a few small cereriac, planted late so they haven't done much.
Can I leave them for next year, or will they go to seed?

They will run to seed unfortunately as soon as it warms up a bit next spring. Best to harvest and salvage what you can.

hi , we tried growing 24 celeriacs, only 3 made it to a decent size,

too dry for too long , even though we watered well,

maybe yours had too much fertiliser dug in last autumn

Mine are still small (so are the swedes next to them) even though planted in March and watered occasionally. However this heavy rain and mild weather seems to be helping to swell them a bit. I thought you could leave celeriac in all winter....just pull when you want? I'm going to be patient....don't need the bed for anything else till Spring!

Can you keep me appraised Viettaclark, as I'm going to grow Cleriac next year ;).  By the way, love the Mainecoon cat :).  My Merlin looks just like him .  By the way, he came home a few days ago, with two mice in his mouth, both alive .

I shall surely let you know if I get any celeriac worth eating! First time I've tried them.
We had a cat (Gubby now deaded)) who looked like this (but not pure breed) and kept 2 of her 4 kittens. They came out a mix of short/long hair with 2 black 2 tabby. I kept the girls but had them spayed so no more kittens!! :(

Pulled the 4 "big" :D :D ones this afternoon, they had been in since March time. Not a lot there, lots of roots but nothing that could be called a "ball". So the whole lot will be removed ready for next years offerings.

Not sure I will bother again as they were so poor. Shame as they were easy to grow, but green tops and lots of roots aren't much good. Through the shredder tomorrow

sounds a bit like mine - ok top growth but underneath a bit like a muddy hairy spider with no real body.

My reading suggests that it's due to the soil not having enough fertilizer in it.

I had plenty of fertiliser. I was told it was too much of (something) which produces lovely lush green tops but no root. What is it?

I think nitrogen is the element for leaves
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

That's the one! Doing too much of the nitrogen. It's not LACK of fertiliser!!

Top growth was reasonable but not excessive by any means, they are not tiny plants so I wouldn't expect a couple of leaves on something that appears to get to the size of a swede. So I am doubtful of it being too much or too little of anything in particular.

Anyway they have gone, and the ground can be prepared and the next crop planned.
