Title: Transplanting aubergines
Post by: Rich72 on February 29, 2012, 18:08
Afternoon all.
My aubergine seedlings have now got 2 sets of true leaves. What do I do with them now? They are currently on my south facing sunny kitchen windowsill and look really healthy

Are they in individual pots? If not then pot them on and do that every time the roots appear from the bottom of the pot - into the next size up pot.

They can't go out into the greenhouse polytunnel until all frosts have passed, so I hope you have room on the window ledges ;)

You use foil vertically round (behind) the place where you are growing the plants to reflect light back onto them, otherwise they get very leggy and drawn.

Some people put it on board, but others just tuck the foil underneath the trays / pots and ensure it stays upright.

DD:A simple & cheap aid to prevent this is placing the seedlings on a window ledge, with some aluminium foil behind the pot/tray to reflect the light back. This can nearly double the amount of reflected light. There is no need for fancy arrangements here, simply put the foil underneath the pot/tray and fold it upwards behind the seedlings. With a couple of nips & tucks in the right place it will be self-supporting.

It really does stop plants from getting leggy  ;)

sorry Yorkie it's snap!

Cheers guys. The foil is already in situ, don't worry. The plants are in a 9 module tray (1 in each module) at present. I transplanted my tomatoes into toilet roll inners the other day. Would this work for aubergines?

I'd save them for something that needs the depth, aubs don't need it  ;)
