Look very carefully at your little visitors what do they look like? Yes chickens do get fleas but I've never seen a chicken flea in 15 years of keeping hens, however I'm told that you will really know when you have fleas in the hen house as they actively seek you out! Yuck. I think your hens have either red mite or lice. If you are finding them in the bedding and there is a great deal of them they are probably red mite. Look on the forum there is lots of tips and advice. Be aware that they are blood suckers that can if an infestation gets a real hold, kill your birds. I lost two the first year my hens got red mite and that was a very long time ago and I still feel heartsick that I hadn't realised what was doing the damage. Good luck.
