Title: How long to drown weeds roots?
Post by: fatbelly on July 09, 2007, 12:53
Hi
I am bit by bit digging all my plot and taking weed roots out by hand.
I now have a large bucket full of Mares tail, Couch and Dock root.
I want to drown the blighters before I compost them.
But how long do they need to be submerged to totally kill them.
Thanks

I dont see why you couldnt try. The resulting soup could be a liquid feed, though marestail can be used as an insecticide (?) I think. Double wammy!!

I'd be tempted to cut stuff up small though to speed up the process, and try it. It might well take a couple of months to be unviable in the compost heap.

Good luck....let us know how you get on. I would be VERY interested in the outcome  :D

Hi there, I am an absolute beginner but the thought of doing anything other than nuking mares tail is unlikely to even give it a headache! It may look small and weedy(!) but don't be deceived! Inside lurks a monster of mammoth proportions! Let me know how you get on.
