Hi,

If its a Japanese engine from the 1970s, it will have been designed to run on unleaded petrol. Unleaded was even coming into the UK by the late 1970s and we were very late to adopt it compared to many countries. To be belt and braces safe, you could include some lead additive - Redex for one produce it - it won't do any harm.
