Just picked up 2/3rds of a howard 200 from the dump!!! Its a bit rough and missing the rotovator deck. But if I can get it running I will use it to power hoe. I would like any info any one has. Parts suppliers ect.
-
ive got a howard 350 that i have been doing up when i get a spare hour or 2 ,can get it started but when you give it some revs it cuts out , could be carb problems or ive been told the head might need skimming .any way frankie if you do a search on ebay you can get manuals parts booklets and stuff like that, also i have seen lots of bits for 350s but not much for the 200 . mine has got a kohler 141 engine at the time they were rather common.
-
hi Shaun. good luck with the 350. I would have been more pleased if mine was complete, still a engine and gearbox is better than nothing. The spring that returns the starting cord was broken. I silver soldered it but now have not got enough hands to put it all back together. Still i felt better after hameriting the cooling cowel. send us some pics of the 350.
-
picked the howard up on the way home from the lawnmower chap.it needed a head gasket and the points was set wrong total price £45,the tyres are the wrong way round and the tines need a rub over with a grinder but appart from them its a peach.
post a pic tomorow ,cant wait to give it a blast now i'm like the cheshire cat :D
i'm in 2 minds now to sell my merry tiller ,buts its always handy as a back up i just dont know :?
-
Keep the merry tiller. i find the honda great for large areas but difficult in small areas. My dream line up is the honda, a merry tiller and a small howard for between the rows during the summer. My wife is going mad. :x
-
Swop the wife for a tractor!
(I'd better expand the mail box ready for the irate emails!)
-
I really am not going to rise to John's challenge to undertake a detailed SWOT analysis of wives v. tractors.
I have to say that wives are generally much more useful than husbands though...
-
...or a costs / benefits analysis....
-
OMG - just send abuse, not business jargon, please. You'll get a better ROI :)
-
this could get nasty, what type of tractor would you expect to get for a straight swap then i'm lookin at a john deere or a newholland ,in 20 years i might get a massey so i better get the ball rolling :D
-
We've got a tractor dealer nearby in Nantwich, some fantastic machines but having realised they won't fit on the plot, I think I'll stick to being married.
-
Coorrr - Val is gonna be happy to find out that the only thing stopping her from being swapped for a tractor is the size of your plots!
-
If she reads this thread I may well be buried on the plot!
We're coming up to our 26th Anniversary on Nov 1 so I suppose the tractor is out anyway.
-
its all very well swopping the wife for something more useful but as any one got a howard 200 bits!!!?
-
errr...no. sorry!
-
All sorted just picked up a working 220. so no need to exchange the wife.
-
great news there frankie bet your itching to get it out :)
-
well its all in bits being rub down at the moment
-
frankie does it need much work or is it just a wee rub down and a polish ,
on another note if noshed finds out that we polish our rotavators that will be it :D
-
noshed is some sicko that thinks the allotment is for growing things. one day he will realise its just for machines.
And it just needs painting its a bit rusty.
-
noshed is a lady mate , never argue with them they take ya spanners of ya . n wack ya round the head lmaoooo
-
and she is a journalist (bet she could spell project without help!!!)
-
hi there , i have a howard 200 engine fully running and working order, looking to sell it , are you interested ,
-
I not one to miss an opertuinity to an to my infastucture !!
How much??
-
well all going well just picked up the other half of a 200 and a bullfinch with sickle attchment for £15 so I now have 8 rotovators  some thining needed i think!!
-
you cant have to many frankie :D
so is the 200 up and running then ?
-
Surely someone will admit that 8 rotovators might be a bit over the top?
-
ermmmmmmmm.. nopes ...... im just jelous ..
-
i bet shes got one hidden in her shed, dont be embarrassed noshed you know you want one :D
-
Hi Shaun. One 200 is complete and could be running in a couple of hours if i wanted, but its under renovation. Tomorrow morning i will throw the other bits together to make the second one up for use in the afternoon. The Bulfinch has some damage in the worm gear drive to the rotovator deck. I will turn up some new bits for that next week. I now have enough bits to make up a working villiers engine. But for the time being, I have two Chinese Honda copies (1 new) and a Honda 3.5 hp to power them. I am going to get rid of the merry tiller style machines I have which will reduce me to 5 rotovators. :( That should keep noshed happy. I keep talking about selling some machines, it keeps my wife happy
-
I will have to get the squadron all working and polished for Karl's visit in the summer.
-
now that will be nice mate i will do a write up for our other sitre if ya wanna  you posing in the buff with them tho lool
-
i will leave all the Buff possing to the rabbits!!!
-
Had my grandson over today. So we started to build up one of the 200's all went fine until one wheel / gearbox setup was splined and the has a taper fit. One set of wheels on the good bearbox have not got tyres and the other gearbox is leaking water  Just have to put it down as a bad day.
-
what you meen frankie "the gearbox is leaking water" ?
thats the thing with howards they are meant to be the same eg 200 but they have different engines and other bits differ aswel :?
got mine out this afternoon in the garden and gave it a pull and a polish :D
this one will keep you busy

The one i rescued from the dump has water in the gear box. it has not had a rotovator deck on for years i presume allowing the water in.
-
pour diesel in the gear box it will lift the oil out and act as a freeing oilleave it in for a few days dump it out . then pour petrol in to get rid the exces diesel n tip out to a fire place then redo the oil when the petrol has evaporated dry .. werked on a nuffield i did beutifully, was used by old trawler engine room boys for freeing donkey generators
-
i have filled it with diesel but i was reading a tin of WD40 and apparantly it stops sqeaks so i might give that a go
-
wd40 is the modern mix basically of what i suggested mate . just costs more for a smaller amount lolo
-
When i was an engineer in the factory we had "Plus Gas" and later at the mine we had "duck oil" both were great at freeing things up but i dont see them forsale now. The duck oil came in gallon cans and went home buy the flask full
-
Finally got the Honda engine to start on the rope(Rather than from a donkey engine  ) and i fitted it to the 220 so weather allowing off to clean up between the onions tomorrow. If not it will have to be next weekend
-
Reading back through this thread reminded me of a big laugh I got at an Australian product, equivalent of our Easistart. Typically blunt and to the point, the Australian can was openly sold as "Start You Bassard!"

Just gave little red the first drive of the season and it worked well. Great between the onions. But a bit small for the main digging.

Anybody,
is this in english?
what does it mean?
is it a code?
my head hurts now, i'm going to lay down.
-
When you post there are some buttons like the B that makes text bold and if you want to display a photo on the post you need to know where the image is stored. This needs to be on the net somewhere and the address is known as a URL. By pressing the image IMG button and putting the address where the file is stored into the box that opens, the code is automatically created to display your photo in your post.
Any clearer or still mud like?
-
all received and understood :?

now for a go

-
Like everything - easy when you know how :)
-
Now the little howard is working I am wondering what else it could do.
1 a tool frame for hoeing ect
2 a wider deck and crumbler bar for seed beds
3 a small banker for earthing up
any other ideas
-
just keep it as god made it
what HP is it frankie?
-
The little and reliable G150 Honda is 3.5HP. It dont rev much but just sails along.
-
I wouldnt mind a scarifier attachment or spring tine attachment
-
I would like a set of bull bars
-
I would like a set of bull bars
whats that for mate so you can push all those rabbits out of the way.
-
Yeh and I could then use it to pick the grandchildren up from school as well. It seems bull bars are a necessity for that
-
im imagining those folks from the good life but with frankie driving his howard down the road with trailer n a comfy seat .veggies n half a pig layed over the back
