Title: Apricot
Post by: Frizzle1 on February 19, 2020, 12:02
Does anyone know if any part of the apricot tree are toxic to my hens. Worried about the leaves as well as the stone with my hens foraging around them. I think the stone is but not sure about the leaves or if they flower, I think blossom is. Thanks for reading

All of it is toxic apart from the flesh of the fruit we eat.  The whole tree contains cyanide in low doses.

The kernels are inside the stone, so hopefully the hens will not get at these.  The leaves and fallen blossom I would sweep up.  I'm not sure if they will eat either, but the general rule with hens is assume they will.

Thanks for your reply it’s just that we have a space to put another tree but just didn’t know what to choose that was safe. Thanks again
