I actually meant that the seed pods pop open - usually when the birds are elsewhere. Had this problem at my last house. Thick gloves help - a little, and long sleeves are short of useless against their wirey spikes which are everywhere. I had to wear an old coat in summer to keep my skin from shredding when I cleared out a very large patch I'd missed. Wasn't my idea of a fun time, I can tell you. I still came in looking like a slasher's victim    It was either the teasels or the raspberries I was trying to grow in the same place.

I think Irish teasels aren't as bad as Canadian ones, yours sound like monsters

They are. In the right soil, they can grow to 6 ft tall and 3 ft wide per plant, with loads of 'flowers'. And that's in one season. Yours must be more the leprechaun type
