Clearing a new plot
« on: May 16, 2013, 21:55 »
Hi I,ve taken on lotty No5. It used to just have top fruit on. I have removed the trees from down the centre of the allotment, which gives a clear area of about 30x100 ft. Over the years it has got very weedy despite being regularly strimmed down. I have sprayed it off with Rosate 36 and the weeds are dying. Anyone got any ideas for tackling it to make it plantable.Maybe squashes and sweetcorn to begin with, without having to dig the whole vast area over. I have a powerful tiller but don't want to chop up loads of weed roots before they are definitely dead.

There's some great articles by John Harrison the site owner in the "Advice & Articles" tab on the top of the page. Dont rotavate!! Dig and remove weeds for a few years before you do..
