I received 3 trees today, cherry, plum and peach from Direct Plants.
They look fine to me and have arrived with all 3 together in a plastic bag with some soil in.
I cannot plant them until next week, what should I do with them until then?

Fast service from Direct Plants  :D

if the bag covers all the trees then split the top of the bag so they can breathe.
Keep the soil around the roots damp and store them somewhere cool ;)

is the soil damp, if not put them in a bucket of water (so the roots dont dry out)

outside is ok unless it turns very cold/frosty, then they're best in a grenhouse shed or garage

What i did with mine was to heal them into a vacant spot until reuired, just dig a hole big enough to take ALL the rooted area and refill. if the ground is dry then water them in. jJust keep any frost off the roots

I'd second the advice to heal them in while.  I'm never ready when my trees or bushes arrive  :nowink:

If I don't heel them in why should I remove the plastic bag with the soil in Wattsy?

the roots can sweat in plastic better to stick them in a hessian sack (or such like) and damp it down a bit. i had 11 trees arrive in the middle of all the snow stuck them in the shed with damp newspaper round the roots and they're right as rain budding up nicely.

they might be alright in the plastic for a week i've always been told to take it off though

If they're in soil inside the plastic, then it's like they're healed into a plastic pot for a week - simples  ;)
