Girls are loving the rain
« on: March 04, 2012, 17:13 »
Oh they are loving the rain. Wandering around to their hearts content. They are absolutely dripping though. Im sure the answer is no but hubby has just said should we dry them off a bit when they go back in the coop.

no, you only need to dry them when they are unwell and you have bought them in to either wash or to soak them to allow them to pass an egg  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

Mine obviously love the rain. I havent seen any of them take shelter all day and it has been raining constantly.

Not sure but think I have read that Battery Hens stay out in the rain as they don't have the sense to shelter and can get a chill.

Mine are in and out of the rain looking for tasty morsels.  Then shaking themselves off like a dog would to dry their feathers.

I think ex batts stay out because they have never had the chance to feel the wind and rain rather than not having the sense to take cover.

Mine spent the day under her little shelter trying to catch rain drops as they fell of the corner of it.  She had a few visits to my kitchen.  Not welcome in dog bed today as dog in it!

You would probably find that if you looked under the feathers they will be dry. When you bathe a hen it gets wet to the skin which is why it needs to be dried off. :)

Mine looked completely drenched yesterday but they were obviously happy to be out in it as they completely avoided their two shelters!

Silly chickens.
I always find that work gets in the way of life.
