Title: Fishing Season 2020/2021
Post by: Welsh Merf on April 23, 2020, 14:57
Having just read Fishing Season 2019/2020, and looked for similar this year, and not finding one . . . (no idea why??), I decided to start one myself instead. Apologies if one has already been started, and if so, could a kind moderator/admin type person move this one to the relevant place, please.

Last autumn, four of us booked two fishing trips to Scotland for this year, for salmon fishing on the North Esk. Last October was the first time I was invited along, and have now been invited again this year (because I'm a damn nice chap!). The first trip was meant to see us travelling up on Sunday 3rd May 2020, and the second trip on Sunday 11th October 2020. Needless to say, the first trip has been binned, but the kind people in Edzell have allowed us to keep the same dates for both fishing and accommodation for 2021. Now the question is: what are the chances of the October trip being cancelled as well?

In September, we normally go fishing the Teifi in West Wales, but this year they've seen it fit to completely ban worming and spinning, and you can't keep any fish. So, if the river is in spate, we won't be able to switch from fly-fishing to worming or spinning, and if we do manage to catch a fish, we won't be able to keep it. What's the point of paying all that money, I ask?

So, it potentially looks like no salmon fishing at all this year, and even trout fishing is all dependant on whether they open up the lakes and reservoirs. Hummmph!

Thanks, Merf.

I don’t think one has been started yet.  Probably because there’s no waters open for fishing at present.

Absolutely correct AS!

I just thought that some who enjoy fishing, like me, would like the chance to whitter and whine about the current situation. When my neighbour pops his head over the fence that's all he seems to do, and it's all about the lack of fishing.  :nowink:

I have a son and husband who feels the same as you, Merf.   :(
