Lidl Strawberries
« on: March 20, 2015, 13:34 »
Just bought 12 plants for £5.98 which seemed a good price, healthy looking plants. Each plant is in a 3" module.

6 Korona
6 Sonata

What should I do with them now, keep them indoors until it warms up a little?

I bought some yesterday too, thanks to a post on here :). I intended to put mine in the greenhouse overnight as they are flowering so assumed they have been indoors, but I forgot & they spent the night outside in the wheel barrow. Today I've nipped all the flowers & buds off, watered them well & will keep an eye on the weather & take them in if necessary, before planting out when I've prepared the new bed. I will keep nipping the flowers of until they have rooted well.

As I said on another thread, if you're going to ait a couple of weeks, I would also suggest putting them into 9cm pots with some fresh compost. They will have been stressed by whatever Lidl do to them and some fress growing medium is always a help.

I bought two packs as well, couldn't resist!

Popped them in the greenhouse as I thought they might have been under cover before now.

As always I have high hopes for them, but I am never that successful with strawberries!

Strawberries are really tough plants so they should survive Lidl's ministrations and grow away.

IIWM I would harden them off asap and get them growing outside, as any flowers are more likely to be pollinated then too.

Excellent value!!
