Title: Diarrhoea
Post by: VeggieVirgin on April 11, 2011, 11:32
One of my chickens has diarrhoea - I'm not absolutely certain which one, since I've just found the diarrhoea in the coop, but one of my regular layers has been slightly less regular lately, so it could be her. All the hens look healthy and lively, and they're all laying.

I've looked at the poo pics (lovely!), and it doesn't really look like any of the normal or abnormal pics. It's brown and sort of like a thick lumpy liquid (sorry if anyone's having their lunch at present).

I'm a bit worried that it could be E. coli and could spread to the others. Any advice about what I should do next?

Luckily a bit early for lunch yet! I am no expert but how long has it been happening for? I think hens like most other creatures can have the odd digestive upset which will clear up quickly but if it has been going on for longer it might indicate something else.

Have you noticed if any of your hens have dirty feathers near their vents?

Post a picture here so that some of our experienced keepers can give an opinion.

Thanks for replies.

It's been going on for maybe a week or so, but not every day.

I will take a piccy tomorrow (if the hen obliges again).
