R - Com Incubators
« on: March 12, 2008, 10:21 »
I am posting this up for a friend of mine - hope you don't mind.  He will be joining here soon once he gets organised.

Has anyone got any experience of these? I've got quite a few Brinsea incubators at the moment, but I'm looking for a top-of-the-range something-or-other to hatch my more expensive quail eggs. I've been told that the R-com are very good and can be hooked up to a computer to control the temperature and humidity etc. I need something very precise for precious eggs.

If anyone has used one of these, I'd be really grateful to hear their views, and experiences!

He really would be grateful - he is a quail enthusiast and breeder.

Many thanks for looking

I've just found this link, no experience myself sorry but wondered if any use to your friend?

http://www.incubate-eggs.com/index.php/fuseaction/shop.product/productid/860

It was the bit about the computer linked one being more for parrots that grabbed me.

Many thanks Vember.  This chap is really really an expert on his quail with some really rare varieties

He has been breeding them since he was young - (now retired) and has travelled and worked in the USA so has a wonderful collection of birds - and is now selling his eggs.

I have just bought the standard R Com20 and apart from a few teething problems with the humidity (not sure what was up with it) it has been running a week now and is keeping temperature and humidity well.  I will let you know in 2 weeks time how it compares with my old incubator.

The only small niggle I have with it is that where you put the sponge for humidity and the pipe comes in, is very limited space for your hand.
40 hens, 8 cockerels, 3 dogs, 2 rabbits, 8 chinchillas, 2 teenage daughters and O/H

I have 7 adult Japanese quail, 5 baby Japanese quail and 1 cpq.  I will be putting more quail eggs in the inc after I have finished hatching more chooks.  My quail are far more reliable than the chooks and have laid nearly all winter without extra light.  The last batch of quail eggs I incubated nearly all were fertile. I just had problems with my old incubator hence the reason I bought the R Com.

Funny how chook and quail keeping becomes infectious and you have more than you originally started out with.
