Disease ? help
« on: August 15, 2009, 12:14 »
My jostaberries are getting more and more of what looks like tiny ivy roots growing on the leaves. Last month only a few, but now starting to spread.
The stuff is hard and dry, and wont rub off. Nothing on the other side of leaf.
Otherwise, bushes look healthy.
What to do ??

I know not a thing about jostaberries - but that photo looks like something out of a sci-fi film!  :tongue2:

If the growth had been under the leaf I might have considered that it could have been a natural part of the plant's growth. But, anything like that growing on the top of the leaf seems very odd... I can't imagine that it should be there as it looks as if it will reduce the plant's ability to photosynthesise.

I am definitely following this thread as I'd like to learn more.

Let's hope someone can enlighten us.  ;)

Is there any chance that you could ask the supplier / nursery?

Interesting - we have something strange but similar on our Gooseberry Pax......I'm not happy about it but might send a sample somewhere for them to look at; if I could remember who I bought it from [Probably T&M]....

The link provided a good description and reassuringly seemed to be saying that once the weather conditions return to normal (whatever that is / was) new leaf growth also goes back to normal.

Certainly an odd corky growth.... but it doesn't seem to be anything to panic about - no aliens anyway!!

The trouble is that its starting to cover quite a fair proportion of the leaves  :(
and am beginning to feel that it will eng in tears, as they say  ;)
On top of that I just dont like the idea of something creeping all over my jostaberries uninvited  >:( , especially when I dont know what it is.
Does anybody have similar invasion ?

Digging around on the net all I have come up with is Jostaberry leaf netting. Katherna's link is spot on.

See also at younger stage if you type Josta leaf netting into Google images.

It appears to be something that occurs in Josta leaves. No pest or disease involved.
