Frosted winter squash
« on: September 01, 2012, 14:34 »
Went round to the plot this am to find most of the leaves on my squashes have turned black as a result of the frost 2 nights ago.

This is the first time I've grown them. I can harvest the summer squashes but the winter ones (Crown Prince) are just bigger than a large grapefruit - should I take them off or leave them on in the hope they will still continue growing?

If all the leaves have blackened then they'll not grow anymore, but if there are some green ones then I'd put a fleece over and keep my fingers crossed  ;)
