I had no susses last year so I want to get it right this year.
Tips on Sweet Corn please.
At the moment I have sweet corn seeds on a damp tissue in a container with see though lid on my kitchen side. They have been there for 4 days and nothing much has happened yet, in the way of they seeds are not sprouting!!!!.
Can some please advise of what should be going on and what I should be doing.
Should the seeds be in dark on the damp tissue?
Do you keep the tissue damp?
How long before they should be sprouting ready to grow on in pots in my greenhouse?

You're doing fine. They will begin to sprout very soon and they don't need to be in the dark (at least mine didn't). I've just potted mine into Richy's paper tubes to give them a nice deep root run before planting out.

Last year I just put mine straight in the ground , and considering there was only about a dozen seeds in the packet, they all came up, Wilko f1 Miracle , planted in late May as we only got our plot from the council in the same month.
Need to come up with a mice proof collar or something to stop them climbing up and getting to the cobs.

Can I ask please the little bit that comes out of the seed on the paper is that the root? Yes do laugh at this sill question I know but I want to plant the seed the right way round. lol
I was going to put each seed when ready into a toilet roll is this ok i have got paper pots but i have so many rolls i need to use the up.

If your towel dries out they shall never chit, you can just pot them up as they are. :wink:

Someone on our site uses clear plastic water bottles 1.5litre size and cuts the pouring end bigger and slips them over the growing cob as a barrier to the rats / mice.
He says it works each year so I intend to give it a go
