Hi all

One of our hens (the one I reported as being a little poorly a few days ago (turned out she was just more timid than the others) has always had a bald neck area (just above crop).  There are now some feathers coming through but I noticed yesterday that there's a bit of dried blood aroudn the edge of this patch.  Not a great deal and it's not stopping her from eating / laying / scratching etc.

The boss hen (as we call her) does have the odd peck at the others so maybe it's that - if so, should I separate them or is the odd little cut quite normal?

Or, do you think it could just be where the feathers are coming through?

...one more question - is there anything I could/should put on there (savlon for chickens?)

You could pop germolene on if it's an open wound.

If it's dry and not open though I think I'd be tempted to just squirt the area with purple spray to try and discourage The Boss from pecking there.

I wouldn't separate yet just keep a close eye on her

Great - good thinking re purple spray thank you.  It was dry (last time I saw at least).

I've only seen the occassional peck here and there so it's not like they're constantly fighting...
