My own fruit farm ( sort of)
« on: July 28, 2009, 09:20 »
Behind my house are school playing fields with the edges very over grown, very useful for picking blackberries and comfrey! Behind those is a field used for cricketers and then another used rarely by a private school on sports days. Took my dog for a walk and detoured of our usual route and discovered some treasure. On the back of this last field there are trees and bushes hanging over the fence from some large gardens. Plums, damsons apples and what I think are greengages.

WOUld be impossible for the home owners to get to ( and wold they bother anyway as the bulk of the fruit would be easy for them to pick from their own side)

Would it be a bit norty to pick this stuff? what do you think. Would hate to see it go to waste while I have freezer space LOL

Why not just pop round the front and ask 1st  :)
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Asking first would be best as just picking I think is classed as stealing even if they are all going to waste  :(
Staffies are softer than you think.

Knock and ask.  They are most likely to want it to be eaten rather than go to waste.  You also get to know the people and can find out if the produce has been sprayed or such.  I walk past a lovely garden with my daughter on the way to a friends house that has 3 hugely overgrown apple trees in it.  After plucking up the courage I knocked to ask if we could have some apples for making a sauce and was told to help myself.  The old couple who lived at the house were really generous and even gave me a call a couple of weeks later to ask if I needed anymore apples.   :)

we have a plum and a cherry local but on public land, I say knock and ask you may find some really nice people who are happy to share.

If they no, go back at midnight and fill your boots anyway (joking of course )
