Hi have just had my 3rd batch from the incubator start hatching on day 22, 1 hatched on the dinnertime, another late that night but the one that started pipping between these two still hasn`t hatched, theres a small hole and some shell missing but not much progress in 18 hours, can`t hear chirping but can see movement, how long can it take considering the first hatched pretty quick?(helped one that did this before and it died so don`t want to interfere) and what about the other 7 eggs whats the longest you`d leave them, no signs of anything happening, thanks

Hi,
If you look at some of the postings made this week/last week, some eggs have taken up to 48 hours from pip to hatch, so don't panic. As for the other unhatched eggs, I wouldn't consider discarding them until at least 25 days have passed as some take a little longer than others. Try and avoid opening the incy as this will affect the humidity and will make it even more difficult for them to hatch as it dries the membrane in the eggs out and basically encases the chick in a leathery sack that they can't get out of.

Thanks for the advice i`m only opening the incubator if water needs  topping too keep humidity up, i`m over the moon with the 2 hatched and fingers crossed i get a few more

I've hatched about 50 chicks this year and it never ceases to amaze me. Once I know one is hatching, I'll get a cuppa and sit for hours just watching - the joys of nature!

Unbelivable, i checked and no progress at all, then 10 mins later heard cheeping and he was out!! over the moon
