feeding fish during hols help
« on: June 25, 2011, 22:18 »
My friend can't house sit whilst I go on holiday. How good are the week/ 2week feeders for 3 goldfish? Can't get anyone in to feed as I will have moved house.

Maybe you could take the fish and tank/bowl to someone who can look after them in their home?

How long are you going for ?

They can take a week or two without food.

2 weeks should be okay, my fish went for about that long when their owner died

How big a tank is it?  Are there any live plants?
We use chemicals in this garden, just as god intended

Just left mine for 2 weeks, but they have a huge planted tank.

Tank gets a good cleaning & looks healthier on my return.

going for a week. If they survive the house move, they will hopefully survive for a week.
Funnily enough, there appears to be 2 carp in the pond in the new garden, they haven't been fed since the owners moved out in January.

Our pond fish find enough to feed themselves, dragonfly larvae etc.  We do feed them in the summer but don't think we need to.

We put our daughters fantail in the pond about 8 years ago, it was only about 3 inches long.  It is now huge and loving pond life.

I think you can buy a block of food which they nibble at when they want to.

We put a feed block in our tropical tank when we went on holiday for two weeks and they were fine. :)

The problem with feed blocks is fish dont "get full"
You could empty a years food in the tank, and they'd eat and eat until until they died.
