The male/female birds are known as "gyandromorphs"

It is possible that your serama is also a gyandromorph as the split is almost 50/50.

It would be interesting to see how s/he grow up to be like!

A chick could be half normal and half silkie feathered...... as in exactly half???

I have a little serama which is exactly that.... even its tail is half and half...

I reckon it must be pretty rare!!!

WOW  I Want One!!!  :D

I've never seen anything like that before in my entire life!
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

That's one fascinating chick!  Most local papers love stories like that (and even the nationals, sometimes - there was a story recently about the cat with the loudest purr...) so do try giving them a call.

And for your records (and our edification) please keep taking updated piccies!

Definitely keep taking piccies - I would love to see her from different angles too, and as she grows it will be really fascinating to see her facial features.  Also do you know who the parents are?  Photos of the parents could be really interesting so as she grows we can speculate on whether she's looking more like her Mum or her Dad.

As for media, definitely go ahead with the Practical Poultry article first.  Then once it's published you can show it to more general media and see if they want to do an item.  It means Practical Poultry will have done the leg-work and explained all the concepts in simple language that non-specialist journalists will be a ble to follow. ;)

That's often the route a news story takes - it gets published in a specialist journal then later (sometimes ages later) it gets into the general media.  Then everyone who already knows about it rolls their eyes and says "that's old news!"  ::)

I'm trying to imagine how that chick is going to look fully feathered with 1 side all neat flat lying feathers and 1 side all fluffy silkie   :D

Can't wait to see pics of it in a few weeks

I would try your local paper they like 'easy' stories, ie ready made and that is what you have. :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!
