I'm new to growing things - started with rocket. My first cut-and-come-again sowing is at a good size now. I cut at the branch - should I have gone for the stem?

And does anyone know why some plants have sprouted flowers at the top before growing proper rocket-shaped leaves (I cut the flowers after reading this site).

chop it right down to the ground - it will sprout again...

if its flowing - which means its running to seed  - its a sure sign of irregular watering and/or not watering enough, rocket needs to be kept on the damp side but not overwatered...

Rocket's aim in life is to flower and set seed.............not to carry on growing leaves so you can eat it 
It's easier if you treat it like lettuce really, sow a few seeds every few weeks, then you will have some to eat before it goes to seed. it is always easiest to grow early in the season and late, or even through the winter if you have a sheltered place to grow it
