[Hampshire Hog]

Popped down to the plot yesterday to check out my peas after the good weather. Despite growing them in in guttering and then transferring them to a covered raised bed they have been "nibbled" at the base. Poor things have only been out for under a week and there are barely any left standing. I protected them with netting and slug pellets just wondering how much more I could have done??!

It has been a great winter for slugs !
If the ground gets too wet for slugs they move to a drier area which means more slugs to the square metre !

I think farmers shallow drill the slug pellets just below the surface where the keel slugs live !

Whilst I never bother, one of my plot neighbours always sows his peas direct with a few slug pellets thrown in.  He always has a good crop.
