Title: Chicken run flooring!!!???
Post by: Totty on January 05, 2011, 18:45
Hi, i am looking for somewhere to get either some bark, hedge or wood chippings to throw down on the ground in the chicken run. Its getting wet again now and its gonna cost too much to cover 11 metres square with bagged bark chippings. Any ideas in the west country??

Have you contacted a local tree surgeon and see if he can help you as he will have loads.

Or put up an opaque roof so the soil and the chooks stay dry.

I don't use bark as my hens free range a field but I seem to remember reading somewhere that you should not use bark chippings from any conifer trees as wild birds tend to roost in them as they give excellent shelter the wild birds transfer red mite to the tree and so on to you. If I'm wrong people please correct me.
