When I was lifting my beetroot today I found this in the bed. Can anyone tell me what it is please. The beetrooot were grown in seed trays and transplanted and this was not in the original planting rows.It was the only one in the bed which is 4 x 9 feet.We are new on this plot so I do not know what was here before.

I'm with Stig's mum, white beetroot.  Give it a taste test. :)

I have never heard of white beetroot.I take by all of your comments that you think that it is edible so will give it a taste.

The leaves look like it is a member of the brassica family.
If I can grow things in Shetland, then you can certainly grow things where you are!

Not only can you get strains of beetroot that are supposed to be white, but as with a lot of flora and fauna, genetics can throw up an albino.

This may be one of them.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
