Tomato blight in the greenhouse?

I have just read that blight spores can be carried in rain water.  Does this mean that you should water greenhouse tomatoes with tap water?

The blight spores are in the air and develop when the humidity and temperature are high enough.  Therefore it is best to water greenhouse plants from the bottom, and keep the windows open to reduce humidity during damp weather such as we have been having recently.  I am not sure whether using butt water aggrevates the problem - but try to keep the leaves dry.

I use rain water almost exclusively in the greenhouse & never had a blight problem in over 40 years. (Finds piece of wood to touch).

The outdoor ones on the other hand..................
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I also use rain water and have never had blight in the greenhouse. I thought I had it the other day, but it was botrytis.
I used to close the greenhouse at night and it got very damp. I now leave it open 24/7.
I had to pick off all of the diseased leaves and that has kept it under control.

I open mine ghouse every day to keep botrytis at bay - but have neglected to close it at night a few times...which may be why I have a few large green caterpillars eating some of the ripening toms!

Thanks for those really helpful answers.  We are getting our greenhouse on Friday and I am going to move in some tomatoes I have been growing on the patio.  When you say you leave the greenhouse open at night do you mean the louvres/windows or the door as well?  I wasn't sure about leaving the door open as vermin may get in - either that or our cats who would love a nice warm bed on top of some seedlings  ;)

My greenhouse has two roof windows which I keep open all the time, I wedge them open with a 3" plant pot, or a bigger one in extreme heat.

I usually close the greenhouse door in the evening or sometimes leave it open about 2 inches, usually on wet evenings to allow more air through, then again on cold evenings I dither over what to do.

The louvre windows get opened and closed as and when depending on the heat and/or wind direction.

Pampered plants or what  ;)

Mine will have automatic roof vents - I'm not sure whether you can override them.  I think I will have to play it by ear - and probably dither like Homemade Pie :)
