Tree shreddings
« on: May 11, 2009, 16:08 »
A neighbour has had an Ash tree lopped down, and shredded up most of the branches. Will these chippings, be alright to use in my chicken run? or will they be harmful to my chooks? do I have to dry them out or can they go down fresh? I have about 6 bags full.

The new house is great, and I am busy fencing the garden off at the moment but it is a big area and a lot of hard work. At the moment I daren't let the girls free range because even if you are out in the garden the blooming foxes just saunter down as if they own it even in broad daylight, inspite of having things thrown at them and being chased off. Had to laugh the other day, when looking out at the fox standing staring into the run and all six girls standing on the other side staring back. Hopefully the weld mesh on the run and roof, and into the ground will stand firm :tongue2:

I was a sugestion on Gardeners Question Time 2 weeks ago to use trimmings from your garden shredder.  I would just put the chippings down.  Now as an extra treat you could take all the chippings out of the bags and pile them up somewhere and use them as and when.  This will allow creepies and crawlies to get in. The chucks would love that.
