Foaming eyes
« on: November 01, 2009, 11:28 »
Just noticed one of my chicks has foam around it's eyes.  I noticed yesterday that she was a little under the weather.  Is this serious?

I think a trip to the vets might be in order HairyB.
Especially if she has not been her usual self.

Is she coughing, sneezing or sounding wheezy ?

How old is she? How are the others ?

Sarah :)

One of mine had that a while back....I rang the vet and they told me to bathe her eye, with plain clean cold tap water and cotton wool.....so I did. It seemed to wash her eye out and drain thru her sinuses. She was also a bit sneezy at the time. I was pleased to see she was as right as rain the next day!! Thankfully no vets fees either in this instance. It's worth a try  :)

I note that your observation was "under the weather" as well as having "foaming eyes" The foaming eyes is a classic symptom of respiratory illness. It would be a good idea to take her to the vet for a course of antibiotics to be on the safe side. :)
