Orange scale type growths on Raspberry leaves

Orange scale type growths on Raspberry leaves

Hi all, has anybody expierenced this before, raspberry leaves have a large amount of scale type growths on the upper side, when picked they seem stuck to the leaf and leave a hole, its dosn't seem like any form of rust that i know of, any help would be great. Will try and get a photo :(

Wow that sounds awful, checked the link and its not like the images shown thankfully and its only on the leaves, i think a photo will assist.

Hi Greydog,

a photo would help, but it sounds as though it could well be rust on your leaves.
If you do an image search for "raspberry rust" there are some pretty clear photos which might help you identify the problem.
If it does turn out to be rust I would suggest that you remove the affected leaves immediately to try and stop it spreading and dispose of the leaves by burning or some other safe method but wouldn't suggest you compost them.
Not sure if there is an actual "cure" for rust so can't advise on sprays but maybe someone else would be able to help on that score.

Thanks for the advice Jabberwock, the closest would seem to be ((Phragmidium rubi-idaei) or Yellow Rust as its on the upper side of the leaf, will remove and burn although i'm unsure why i have the problem, suspect just unlucky with some air borne spores, might have to destroy the canes too and invest in some new stock.

Hi,I have the same problem and have been pulling the affected leaves off and destroying,to add to the problem Iv also got some tiny caterpillars eating the leaves,anyone know how to safely get rid of em.Cheers :ohmy:
