Could anyone please tell me if broad/french/runner beans can cross pollinate?
The reason I ask is that I intend saving some of my beans for growing next year and I'm a little concerned about putting them all in the same bed together.
If I do need to keep them apart then that will upset my planned crop rotation.

French and runner beans can cross pollinate.

I've grown runners & climbing purple french beans in the past.

I've ended up with some purple runners, green french beans, runners with the purple flowers of the french beans and all sorts of wierd combinations.

I'm starting with fresh seed this year and will give them more space.

Sounds like a riot when you save seed...........I'll have to try some of them, they sound pretty (but do they taste horrid?  )

I hope you've got a large plot as bees have a range of 1.5 miles.
